If you're thinking about installing an outdoor lighting system, consider these tips from Tim and Janice Charrier of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives. Or, online, visit www.outdoorlights.com. The logistics of where fixtures will be dictates whether you will need one box or multiple boxes. Many people have one transformer for the front yard, another for the back. DETROIT -- Move over, junior. It's mom and dad's time to shine in Detroit's spotlight. At least, that seemed to be one of the central messages of this year's North American International Auto Show, which runs through next Sunday at Detroit's Cobo Conference/Exhibition Center. For quite some time, each successive auto show in Detroit had revealed an almost feverish stampede to serve the needs of Generations X and Y, the children and the grandchildren of the baby boom generation. But while those groups are still very much on the radar of carmakers, it's the baby boomers -- the some 77 million born between 1946 and 1964 -- who are getting the lion's share of attention among new cars and trucks slated to hit the market in coming years. Take Nissan's Bevel, a concept car aimed squarely at active, aging baby boomers who like to say they're not their parent's generation, i.e., they may retire from work, but not life....

I watched the full moon rise through the trees at home last week. I see bright stars and the glow of Orlando late at night when I cannot sleep. And streetlights behind my house in a new subdivision light up my yard and shine in my windows. Night lighting or the lack of it was the focus of the Dark Sky Festival at Harmony on Saturday. The festival was designed to allow visitors to enjoy the darkness in the growing community near Holopaw and increase awareness of the issue of light pollution and lighting design for safety and security as well as for reduced impact on wildlife. ....

(Information provided by guest) Maximizing the amount of time I can enjoy my garden has proven to be an easy task. How you might ask? The mission for this article is to show you just how easy night lighting can be....

Group wont push for total smoking ban

The Prince George Clean Air Coalition will not ask city council to prevent smokers from lighting up on outdoor patios in the city's bars and pubs once the province's ban on smoking indoors comes into effect in 2008.After a failed and controversial effort in 2003 to convince council to ban smoking completely from such establishments -- including those with designated smoking rooms -- PGCAC is stressing education over confrontation, said chair Bob D'Auray."I don't think we'll be doing that again," he said. "We haven't pulled our horns in exactly, but we've changed our tactics. "If we can persuade people to see the need to change, rather than hitting them over the head with a hammer, which obviously hasn't worked."However, he said PGCAC is no supporter of smoking on patios."People are still affected by second-hand smoke," he said....

Spring Grove rethinks $9.3 million stadium project
Posted Thursday, November 09, 2006 7:33:09 AM by Blog57 Team
Several items included in preliminary designs for the outdoor facilities at the new Spring Grove Area High School may be removed prior to the project's going out to bid in January. Design plans presented to the school board last month carry an estimated price tag of $9.3 million. As presented at that time, the plans included a 5,000-seat stadium with a six-lane track, two practice fields and a baseball complex with a baseball field and a softball field. But at Monday's meeting, Scott Cousin of Crabtree, Rohrbaugh and Associates said the secondary baseball field and practice fields have been removed from the plans. Those items carried an estimated $413,709 price tag. Additionally, Cousins proposed removing bleachers and a sound system at the primary baseball field, as well as lighting at the tennis courts....
